2011.01.05 Beverly Zuvers: Efforts with Skelton case appreciated
It began with our local Morenci Police officer, Ryan Hillard, when he responded on Fri., Nov. 26, around 3:30 p.m. when Andrew, Alexander and Tanner were not returned to their mother, Tanya. Chief Larry Weeks became involved at some point that afternoon and before the day ended all Morenci officers were on duty.
The professionalism demonstrated by Officer Hillard, Chief Weeks and all the Morenci Police force has not gone unnoticed.
As you all know, it was soon discovered that John Skelton had no intention of returning the boys and continues to be unwilling to tell where or what has happened to them.
By the morning of Saturday, Nov. 27, our City Hall became the headquarters for the FBI, Michigan State Police and Lenawee County Sheriff departments called to investigate the case. The response and the professionalism of all these departments has been outstanding.
We became one of the top news stories so the reporters came; getting the department Amber Alert out nationwide. To all of these stations and papers, your professionalism has been noticed also.
The Morenci Fire Department became the center for all news conferences, the department’s staff displayed their abilities to not only show professionalism but kindness as well.
Pastor Donna Galloway, as pastor and Morenci Fire Department Chaplin, has given honor to God.
Kathye Herrera has stood by our side and has shown her ability as “family spokesperson” and coordinator of all family news releases and interviews.
You, the community of Morenci, surrounding communities, states, and yes, even countries have shown support in so many ways, we are humbled by your relentless giving and love.
We cannot forget our Mayor Keith Pennington how he has set up the account to accept funds to grow the reward fund to assist in bringing the boys home.
The support continues with the United Bank and Trust and First Federal Bank, and their staff for setting up accounts and processing deposits for the Skelton boys and for the rewards funds.
How many more days, weeks, months, years will we have to wonder where Andrew, Alexander and Tanner are is unknown. We are trusting our Lord and Savior to give us “Hope” and “Joy”; hope for the boys’ safety and joy over their return.
