When a veteran teacher retires, it’s generally a combination of good news and bad news to a school administrator.

A school district will save money by hiring a younger teacher, but it will lose the experience a seasoned teacher brings to the classroom.

Morenci will experience that three times over in the next school year with three teachers accepting a retirement package.

The district is expected to save more than $128,000 next year and $710,800 over the course of the five-year buyout.

The three teachers each will receive annual payments of $8,000 for five years.
