Fayette council considers district park board 8.29
It’s not often easy filling positions on small-town boards and committees. Fayette council might solve that problem by inviting more people to the table.
At the Aug. 23 meeting, councilor Ken Delphous spoke about a proposal to involve township residents in the park planning. Since township residents use the village parks and recreation programs, membership on a joint panel would give them a say in how the parks are run. The move would also serve as a source of ideas.
In the past, said village administrator Tom Spiess later, a suggestion was made to create a district-wide park system that would include Gorham and Franklin townships.
“It would take some time to get this worked out,” he said.
Spiess said there’s a need to study future park use in relation to the new school. When athletic fields are constructed at the new school site, the use of park facilities will change.
