Gallery opens in Fayette 10.10
Area artists could soon have a space to display their work with the opening of a gallery in Fayette.
The storefront location on N. Fayette Street could be used as a space for displaying art, creating art and offering classes.
The gallery opened for two weeks to display the works of Black Swamp Art Guild members. The art guild is based in Bryan and is primarily made up of members from Fulton and Williams counties, said Rebecca Loveless, who helped organize the opening of the gallery.
The display was unveiled for the Fayette Fall Festival last month and contains 40 pieces of art created by 10 members of the guild. About 30 people belong to the group.
“We’ve been looking for a place where art can be sold,” Loveless said.
After a retail business moved out recently, arrangements were made with building owner Tom Spiess for an initial two-week display that continues through Sunday with the Glasgow Reed Organ Series performance.
“We’re hoping to have rotating art shows here and have an artists’ co-op if it works out,” Loveless said.
She aims to have a permanent gallery space, with shows to coincide with special events. She’s also interested in offering the space for student shows.
