Waldron festival is this weekend 8.27
A Battle of the Bands contest is one of the headline events at the 45th annual Waldron Labor Day Celebration this weekend.
The battle is planned downtown from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. There is no admission charge and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The winning band will perform Monday immediately following the parade.
The tri-state mini tractor pulls and stock 4x4 truck pulls begin at noon under the water tower. Antique tractor and car shows, a flea market and food vendors are also scheduled at that location.
Elvis, Buddy Holly and Hank Williams impersonators are scheduled to perform downtown from 5 to 7 p.m. and a Waldron Idol karaoke contest will get underway at 7 p.m. There is no fee to enter the contest and the winner will sing the National Anthem at the parade on Monday.
The Waldron FFA will serve a pork chop supper beginning at 5 p.m. in the Waldron High School cafeteria.
A community church service, sponsored by Prattville Church, is scheduled at 10 a.m. in the multi-purpose room at the school. Special music will be provided by Souls Harbor of Adrian. A potluck meal will follow the service at 11:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Those attending the potluck are asked to bring two dishes to share.
The 15th annual tractor show will begin at noon under the water tower. Silver King and Minneapolis-Moline are the featured tractors in this year’s event. Games and contests are planned, and tractors are scheduled to parade through town at 5 p.m. In addition to the tractor events, there will be displays of antique equipment, steam engines, gas engines, and drawings.
A street dance, with music provided by CJ the DJ from Hudson, is scheduled from 8 to 11 p.m.
Duane Rufenacht is the Grand Marshal of the Labor Day parade set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
A CIW Wrestling show is planned at 1 p.m. downtown. Admission is free and attendees should bring their own lawn chairs.
Kids inflatable games and rides are planned and children can make their own tie dyed t-shirts for $3 each.
The Class of 2009 has planned a chicken barbecue and the Class of 2012 will sell milkshakes and root beer floats. The Waldron Library has planned a book sale and the National Guard unit will set up their rock wall downtown.
A softball marathon, sand volleyball, and a three-on-three tournament are also planned throughout the weekend.
