Parker Stockburger earns State FFA Degree 4.22.09
Only a small percentage of all FFA members ever earn the top state award, and in Fayette the honor is even rarer.
Parker Stockburger is one of the few who made the grade and earned FFA’s State Degree.
“Parker is the first Fayette FFA member to receive the State FFA Degree since 1988,” said agriculture teacher and FFA advisor Pamela Wise.
The school’s agriculture classes and FFA organization stopped in the late 1980s and started up again when Ms. Wise was hired in 2006—when Stockburger was a sophomore.
That was the year he began a custom feeding operation, raising up to 200 head of cattle for Amish customers. Stockburger used that project for his Supervised Agricultural Experience—a basic requirement for the State Degree.
He met the other requirements, ranging from community service to chapter activities, and currently serves as Fayette’s president, now for the second year.
He will travel with other chapter members to the state convention in Columbus May 2 to receive his award, joining an elite group of about two percent of FFA membership to achieve the rank.
Stockburger is accepted at Ohio State’s Agricultural Technological Institute (ATI) in Wooster where he plans to major in ag business.
