Fayette council OKs tree cutting 06.30.2010
Fayette council approved June 15 the first of three phases of tree cutting to remove trees that were designated in poor condition by an Ohio DNR forester.
Work is expected to begin in July to remove trees along Main and Fayette streets where sidewalk repair work is underway.
Twenty-three trees will be removed and the stumps ground by Cutting Edge tree service.
All were marked by the DNR, said village administrator Amy Metz, and many were found to be hollow in the center.
A second phase includes 23 trees and a third phase targets 28 trees.
Metz said there are no plans to replace the trees until the combined sewer overflow project is complete, due to financial conditions.
However, safety concerns prompted council to begin work on tree removal as soon as possible.
Counselor Tom Molitierno voted against the trimming projects.
