Fund-raising underway for 9-11 monument 2012.05.23
Fund-raising is underway for the Fulton County 9/11 Memorial which will be located at the county fairgrounds.
A contingent of Wauseon residents traveled to New York City last June to obtain a 20-foot section of steel beam from the World Trade Center. The beam will be displayed in a memorial building that will be erected at the north end of the fairgrounds.
The memorial will be open to the public throughout the year and no public funds will be spent to create the monument.
The project committee is selling granite paving stones as a fund raiser. Four-inch by eight-inch stones, selling for $100 each, can include three lines of text with a maximum of 14 characters per line.
An eight-inch by eight-inch paver can include six lines of type. The text can include the donor, a business name or a memorial. The location of each stone cannot be guaranteed.
Area law enforcement agencies and military organizations, along with individuals, are invited to help fund the project.
For more information, contact any Fulton County fire department member or the Morenci Fire Department.
Organizers are hoping to have the first phase of the project completed in time for this year’s county fair that starts Aug. 31.
